Developed in joint effort by the Children’s Digestive Health Nutrition Foundation (CDHNF) and the Starlight Children’s Foundation, IBDU (www.ibdu.org) is a resource site for young adults with IBD (Crohn’s and colitis) who are transitioning into college and independent living.
The goal of the IBD project is to help older teens and young adults develop independence around managing IBD; its purpose is to provide resources that build on previous knowledge, improve self-management skills, develop a portable medical record and develop an action plan for dealing with IBD during transition into adulthood. In addition, it includes information to support and guide parents, friends/family, educators and employers during this important transitional period.
The content on www.ibdu.org focuses on:
- Education – IBD overview, medications, glossary of terms, and procedures
- Healthcare – Insurances, prescriptions, important numbers, student health center, and transitioning to a new gastroenterologist
- Lifestyle – Healthy habits, nutrition, drinking/smoking, sexuality and travel tips
- Self Help – Tracking medical history, medical passport, and important numbers
Support for this IBDU website is made possible by UCB, Inc.
